Citizenship - Preparation for the Test

This course is aimed at people who are applying for British citizenship and who want help in preparing to pass the on-line citizenship test.

By the end of the course you will have studied and discussed Life in the United Kingdom – A Journey to Citizenship, on which the citizenship test is based.

This includes:

  • The history of migration to Britain
  • A profile of Britain today – population, ethnic diversity, religion, regional differences, the changing role of women
  • Customs and traditions
  • How Britain is governed

This course is only suitable for people with an intermediate level of English (minimum good Entry 3 level).

If you have no English or very little English you are not required to pass the on-line citizenship test when applying for citizenship. For people with a low level of English who want to apply for citizenship, the Home Office accepts attendance at an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) class, with the successful completion of Speaking and Listening examinations at Entry 1 or Entry 2. For details of how to enrol on an ESOL class, please click here.
