Qualifications
We believe it is important for ESOL learners to get qualifications. With us, in the Community Learning and Skills Service (CLaSS) it is possible to get a full Skills for Life ESOL qualification after three terms.
Qualifications are available at :
- Entry 1
- Entry 2
- Entry 3
- Level 1
- Level 2
Entry 1 is the lowest qualification. Level 2 is the highest qualification.
Level 1 = equivalent to GCSE grades D + E Level 2 = equivalent to GCSE grades A - C
The Skills for Life ESOL qualifications consist of three tests:
- Speaking and Listening
- Reading
- Writing
Each term, ESOL classes are prepared for one of these tests.
- Autumn Term (starting in September) - Reading
- Spring Term (starting in January) - Speaking and Listening
- Summer Term (starting in March/April) - Writing
When you have passed all three tests, then you get a qualification.
Some people are very good at speaking and listening and reading, but not so good at writing. You can take the tests at different levels. Every time you pass a test, you get a certificate. If you pass tests at different levels, then the qualification you get will be at the lowest level of the tests you have passed.
For example:
If you pass ESOL tests at :
- Entry 2 (Speaking and Listening)
- Entry 3 (Reading)
- Entry 1(Writing)
You will receive a qualification at Entry 1
If you pass ESOL tests at :
- Level 1 (Speaking and Listening)
- Entry 3 (Reading)
- Entry 3 (Writing)
You will receive a qualification at Entry 3
If you pass ESOL tests at :
- Entry 2 (Speaking and Listening)
- Entry 2 (Reading)
- Entry 2 (Writing)
You will receive a qualification at Entry 2
