Supporting Learners
Additional support to learn
If you have a health problem or disability that might affect your learning, please let us know. We can give you extra support to help you to complete your course. We would like to help you meet your needs as early as possible, so please let us know about them when you book on your course or speak to your lecturer or centre staff at any time during your course.
Your lecturer will help you identify how the course content, equipment and materials can be adapted to meet your needs. Your lecturer can also discuss with you concessions that can be made by awarding bodies to support you when working towards a qualification.
We can provide a range of equipment such as:
- Hearing loops
- Magnifiers
- Brailing machine
- Computer hardware and software
We can provide support staff, for example:
- Communicators
- Learning support assistants
Support can also include help with:
- Writing - e.g. for course work
- Study skills
- English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL)
- Dyslexia support
- Numeracy
Childcare
At some of our daytime centres we run our own crèches for pre school children aged one and over. As crèche places are limited, please book your place when you enrol on your course. The crèches are free, but there is a charge for refreshments. Our crèches work to Ofsted Standard and we aim to provide your child with high quality childcare. Please note: If schools are closed when our courses are running, it is not possible for you to bring school age children to our centres.
The Learner Support Fund
CLaSS receives some funds to assist learners who wish to attend courses which will lead to a qualification. These funds are available to learners who can demonstrate financial hardship. This includes learners on an income-based benefit or those on a low income. Help may be available for course fees, course books and materials, exam fees and accreditation costs, contact any CLaSS centre for further details.
