Green fingered learners and artists transform Friday Hill House garden

A group of learners taking a gardening course with Community Learning and Skills Service (CLaSS) have worked over the last year to turn an unused, derelict piece of land at Friday Hill House in Chingford into a low maintenance vegetable and flower garden. The learners together with their tutor Clare Joy, are extremely proud of the their achievements.
Several of these learners came along on the 18th August and shared their summer garden stories and harvested and eat some of the produce.
Dyana Symonds who teaches a china painting course at Friday Hill was impressed with the work of the gardening group, she and her learners decided they would like to produce a piece of art for the garden.

After much discussion they decided to paint a sundial with a local historical theme. After investigating using the internet and library, Dyana contacted David Young the Vice President of the British Sundial Society and ex-Chairman of the Chingford Historical Society. He happened to live near to Friday Hill House, and was very generous with his endless knowledge in both subjects.

Each learner painted a part of the sundial. David unveiled it on the 18th August - it coincided with a short break in the other wise rainy sky.
