Free External Childcare

Two schemes are available to support learners to access non-CLaSS crèche based childcare.

Scheme 1

Learner Support Fund

Applications can be made through the CLaSS Learner Support Fund. Application forms are available from any of our main Centres. This scheme ends July 2009.

Eligibility:

Learner must be able to demonstrate financial hardship. This includes learners on an income-based benefit or those on a low income (£19,000 per annum per household or under)

Priority:

Will be given to learners who are studying for qualifications in one of our Learning Centres where there is not a CLaSS Crèche available

Scheme 2

Free Childcare for Training and Learning for Work

Capita, a private company, centrally administers this scheme on behalf of the Learning & Skills Council (LSC). Application packs can be obtained from 0800 121 8989. Learners may be able to access this free childcare funding if they meet the criteria set out below

Eligibility:

• Learners must be 20 years or over
• Learners must be out of work
• Learners must be living with their spouse/partner, and the spouse/partner must be working for 16 hours or more per week
• Household income for the tax year 2007-08 must have been £20,000 or less

The learner’s course must be LSC funded and the childcare provider must be Ofsted registered.
