Nasreen Ahmed has been going to an E3/L1 English class at Friday Hill House for about six weeks. She joined the class because she wanted to be able to understand and express herself clearly at meetings with professionals about her son’s care, as he has severe special needs. She has a natural feeling for the rhythms of poetry.
Earthquake in Kashmir 2006
I have seen earthquakes.
I have seen people with lots of blood and many dead bodies.
I have heard the screams and cries of people who looked for loved ones,
children who cried for parents.
I have seen hunger and starvation, houses reduced to rubble.
I have known families who had nowhere to go.
I will never forget those beautiful villages where houses once stood.
I have seen all houses, schools and colleges destroyed.
